The Minister for Housing and Local Government, Maciu Nalumisa, inaugurated the new Nakasi market, a $1.98 million project designed to host 100 vendors. He highlighted that the market exemplifies the Coalition Government’s dedication to the National Development Plan, which aims to empower the people of Fiji through unity.

Nalumisa noted that many vendors had previously worked under difficult conditions in the Nasinu and Nausori corridors. The new market provides a clean and secure environment that enhances their livelihoods and allows for business growth. He emphasized that this initiative extends beyond commerce, focusing on empowering individuals and communities.

The investment made in the market not only serves as financial support but also as an investment in human potential for the future of Nakasi, Nausori, and Fiji. The facility includes restroom amenities for vendors and customer parking, fulfilling essential needs for the growing urban area.

The development resulted from collaboration among the Nausori Town Council, the Government, and the Fiji Corrections Service, which contributed the land. Nalumisa reiterated the government’s commitment to establishing necessary regulations for municipal markets throughout Fiji. He underscored the importance of transparency, accountability, and efficiency in managing these markets.

The Nakasi market is crucial for ensuring food security, generating local government revenue, and enhancing community vitality, thereby creating an environment where businesses can thrive and vendors can work with dignity and security.
