The Fiji Police Force (FPF) celebrated their first win in the Armed Native Constabulary (ANC) Bowl by honoring the former officers who laid the groundwork for their successes. Police head coach Solomone Nute made this statement after FPF secured a 45-31 victory over the Fiji Corrections Service at the Nasova grounds in Suva yesterday.
The bowl was awarded to the leaders of both organizations by Turaga Na Vunivalu of Bau Ratu Epenisa Cakobau. This match marked the first encounter between the two security forces and was part of FPF’s 150th anniversary celebrations, establishing it as an annual event.
The Blues team showcased their strength at their home field with a roster featuring experienced players like former Fijian Drua prop Timoci Sauvoli, Kini Douglas, and Etonia Rokotuisawa. The Corrections team included notable former sevens representatives and Olympic gold medallist Josua Vakurinabili along with Netani Koroisau.
“This is a significant milestone for us, particularly as we commemorate 150 years of service for all of Fiji,” Nute remarked. “The Corrections team gave us a tough challenge, but we were determined to defend our home ground fiercely.”
Nute dedicated the win to former police officers, acknowledging their sacrifices for their families and for the service of the current officers.
In other news, Nute plans to observe today’s Escott Shield Challenge final between Police Blue and Fresh’et Navy before finalizing his team for the FMF Ratu Sukuna Bowl Challenge. “We have won the Escott Shield for two consecutive years, and we encourage the players to believe in themselves and strive for victory,” he said.
The Escott Shield final is scheduled to take place at Buckhurst Park One at 3 PM, while the Koroturaga final featuring Covenant Red versus Nabua White will kick off at 1 PM. Admission prices are set at $7 for adults and $2 for children under 12 years.
