The Ministry of Health & Medical Services has announced that replacement lifts for the Colonial War Memorial Hospital (CWMH) are expected to arrive next month from the contracted supplier. Recognizing the concerns regarding the non-functional patient lift at the hospital, the Ministry stated that it is actively collaborating with its service providers and relevant government agencies, including the Ministry of Public Works, Transport and Meteorological Services, to address the issue.
The malfunctioning lift, which is situated in the West Wing of CWMH, has been in operation for over fifteen years. The Ministry confirmed that the lift was originally purchased from the OTIS Elevator Company based in New Zealand. Currently, engineers from OTIS are present at CWM Hospital to repair the affected lift and restore its functionality.
Furthermore, the OTIS Elevator Company has an ongoing contract for the maintenance of the lifts installed at the hospital. The Ministry identified the need to replace aging lifts at CWM Hospital earlier this year and has begun the procurement process, with government funding approved to support the replacement of all old lifts.
