The Marist Old Boys Association (MOBA) has appointed Neumi Vakadewabuka as its new president following a recent annual general meeting that showcased one of the highest participations in the association’s history. Mr. Vakadewabuka succeeds Koli Korovulavula, who held the position since 2021.

Vakadewabuka, a retired Lieutenant-Colonel with extensive experience in military and diplomatic spheres, previously served as a counselor and military attaché at Fiji’s New York Mission. Currently, he works as a security and climate change advisor with the German Development Agency GIZ.

The AGM also saw the appointment of new officials: Faizal Khan as secretary, Kenwyn Lord as treasurer, along with committee members Geoffrey Smith, William Otterbech, and Lepani Ravoka. This newly elected committee will serve until 2028, with a focus on enhancing the association’s operations and fostering collaboration among its members.

Mr. Vakadewabuka, who hails from Burerua Village in Sawakasa, Tailevu, emphasized a vision for leadership grounded in trust, integrity, and unity. His appointment reflects a broader trend of revitalization among community organizations in Fiji, reminiscent of the recent changes in the Fiji Medical Association that seek to advance important sectoral goals.

The high turnout at MOBA’s AGM indicates a community eager for effective leadership and proactive engagement. With fresh leadership now in place, there is optimism for the strengthening of initiatives that will benefit the association and its members, ensuring a united and dynamic organization ready to tackle both current challenges and future opportunities.
