The Marist Old Boys Association (MOBA) has recently conducted its Annual General Meeting, culminating in the election of Neumi Vakadewabuka as the new President. Vakadewabuka takes over from Koli Korovulavula, who held the position since 2021. With a background as a retired Lieutenant Colonel, Vakadewabuka has previously served as a Counselor and Military Attaché at Fiji’s New York Mission and is currently a security and climate change advisor for the German development agency GIZ.
The meeting was notable for having one of the largest attendances in recent history, reflecting heightened engagement among its members. Alongside Vakadewabuka, Faizal Khan, a former senior civil servant and Registrar of Cooperatives, has been named Secretary. Kenwyn Lord has stepped in as Treasurer, and committee members include Geoffrey Smith, William Otterbech, and Lepani Ravoka.
Vakadewabuka, hailing from Burerua Village in Tailevu, expressed his dedication to a leadership ethos that emphasizes trust, integrity, and unity. His term will extend from 2025 to 2028, during which he plans to amplify the association’s initiatives and promote collaboration among members.
This leadership transition in MOBA mirrors the recent appointment of new leaders in various organizations across Fiji, including the Fiji Medical Association. This trend evidences a broader commitment to renewal and service, encouraging advancements in community development.
The notable turnout at the MOBA AGM signals a vibrant community eager for active participation and leadership that aligns with its values. As fresh leaders emerge, there is an optimistic outlook for enhanced initiatives and programs that will positively impact the association and its members in the years to come.
