The Ba Rugby Union has announced the appointment of Ben Tora as the new head coach ahead of the upcoming domestic competition. This decision was officially communicated by Ba Rugby Union secretary Gabby Kautoga. Tora takes over the reins from former Flying Fijian star winger Vilimoni Delasau, who has transitioned into the role of Ba Rugby ambassador due to ongoing injury concerns that have limited his participation.

Kautoga emphasized that Delasau will still be involved with the team, offering support despite his reduced capacity to play. Tora’s selection followed a thorough interview process as part of the hiring protocol.

Additionally, Kautoga revealed the appointment of Waisale Tikomailepanoni as the new head coach for the Ba women’s rugby team, while Josaia Tuwai continues as head coach for the Ba Under-20 squad.

In terms of future planning, Kautoga noted that the Ba Rugby Union is strategizing for potential scheduling changes in the Skipper Cup competition, which could be shifted to August next year. They aim to enhance the overall quality of the game and improve club administration. Plans are in place to increase participation from 32 to 40 clubs in the next season, prompting a push for better administrative processes across clubs.

Looking ahead, Kautoga expressed optimism about their ambitions, indicating that the goal for the upcoming season is to secure a spot in the top five of the Skipper Cup competition, subsequently aiming to compete for the Farebrother Trophy. He reflected on the previous season’s success in finishing within the top eight, which helped avoid relegation.

This optimism highlights the commitment of Ba Rugby Union to not only maintain competitive standards but also to foster growth and improvement in club rugby. By focusing on structural enhancements and aiming for higher goals, the union is laying the groundwork for a promising future.

Overall, the appointment of Tora and the proactive measures outlined by Kautoga demonstrate a strong vision for the development of rugby in the region, ensuring that the team continues to strive for excellence on and off the field.
