Ifereimi Rawaqa, the Skills and Development Coach for the Fijian Drua Men’s team, has been appointed as the Interim Head Coach for the Rooster Chicken Fijian Drua Women as they prepare for the 2025 Buildcorp Super Rugby Women campaign.
Mark Evans, the CEO of Fijian Drua, expressed confidence in Rawaqa’s abilities, stating that his dedication to the club and the sport in Fiji is unparalleled. Evans noted that having Rawaqa in this interim role allows time for a thorough recruitment process for a permanent head coach.
Rawaqa expressed his pride in taking on this role, recognizing the significance of the upcoming season as it lays the groundwork for Fiji’s preparation for the 2025 Rugby World Cup. He emphasized his commitment to working closely with the assistant coaches and the Fiji Rugby Union’s High-Performance Unit to strengthen the team’s depth.
The Drua Women have a commendable history in Super Rugby Women, having won the championship twice in three years and reached three consecutive grand finals. Rawaqa is eager to start pre-season training earlier this year and is looking forward to collaborating with the players and coaching staff.
He succeeds Mosese Rauluni, who stepped down from his joint position as the Head Coach for both the Fijian Drua Women and Vodafone Fijiana 15s after the recent WXV competition in Dubai. This appointment was made in collaboration with the Fijian Drua and Fiji Rugby Union.
