Digicel Pacific has announced the appointment of Steve Long as the new Chief Executive Officer for its hub markets, which cover Fiji, Tonga, Samoa, Vanuatu, and Nauru. Long, who brings over 18 years of experience in telecommunications, has previously held various senior executive positions at Telstra, particularly in the consumer, business, and wholesale segments.

Roary Stasko, CEO of Telstra International, expressed enthusiasm about Long joining the Digicel Pacific team, highlighting his extensive experience and energy as valuable assets for the company’s growth in the region. “Steve’s passion for developing people and his strong commercial acumen will be essential in continuing the success of our hub markets,” Stasko remarked.

Long himself expressed excitement regarding his new role, emphasizing the essential function telecommunications serves in connecting individuals, communities, and enterprises. He acknowledged the unique opportunity to immerse himself in the rich cultures and dynamic markets of the Pacific and is committed to building strong relationships with local stakeholders to foster collaboration.

The transition in leadership follows the notable 12-year tenure of Shally Jannif, who departed to pursue new opportunities. Jannif’s impactful leadership is seen as a solid foundation for Long as he steps into his role. Many view this leadership change as a chance for fresh ideas and innovation, potentially paving the way for further enhancements in connectivity and services across the Pacific.

With Long’s background and proactive approach, there is a hopeful outlook for the future of telecommunications in the region, promising advancements in utility and customer engagement as he leads Digicel Pacific forward.
