The Pacific Blue Foundation has appointed Mere Namudu as its new Country Director for Fiji, an important development for the nonprofit organization aiming to foster sustainable community and environmental initiatives in the region. Namudu comes with an impressive 26 years of experience, specializing in areas such as Gender and Development, Climate Change, Marine Affairs, Rural Development, Education, and Public Policy.
With a background that spans both public and private sectors, Namudu has previously held significant roles at esteemed institutions, including the Marine Studies Programme at the University of the South Pacific, the Worldwide Fund for Nature-Fiji, and P&O Cruises Australia. Her expertise and diverse experience position her well to lead strategic initiatives that engage local communities and promote conservation.
As the PBF Fiji Country Director, Namudu will take charge of the Beqa-Yanuca Seascape (BYS) initiative, which aims to unite ten Fijian communities, tourism operators, and various stakeholders to advance the sustainable management and conservation of the Beqa Lagoon’s marine, coastal, and terrestrial environments. This initiative is crucial for enhancing local stewardship of natural resources and fostering mutual support among various actors in the region.
Dr. David Kline, Executive Director of PBF, emphasized that Namudu’s leadership is vital for achieving the foundation’s goals, and her extensive network will be instrumental in driving impactful projects in Fiji. Namudu expressed her eagerness to embrace this challenge, underscoring her commitment to empowering communities through sustainable development practices tailored to address their socio-economic and environmental realities.
