The Ministry of Education has officially announced the revival of interviews for Year 13 students who wish to pursue careers in teaching. This initiative is being executed in partnership with several organizations, including Teacher Training Institutions (TTIs), the Fiji Teacher’s Registration Authority (FTRA), the Higher Education Commission Fiji (HECF), and the Tertiary Scholarships and Loans Service (TSLS). The goal is to improve the quality of teacher recruitment and training throughout Fiji.
Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro highlighted the significance of a robust selection process to attract candidates who are both passionate and well-suited for the teaching profession. This move aligns with the 2024-2033 Denarau Declaration, which strengthens collaboration among stakeholders and the Ministry of Education. The declaration’s overarching aim is to ensure that graduates possess the necessary knowledge, skills, and attitudes to thrive in classrooms across the nation.
Students interested in applying for scholarships can do so under the Merit-Based Higher Education (Level 7 Local Scheme) and Minimum Cut-Off Mark Scheme, covering a variety of Bachelor of Education programs and specialized fields such as Early Childhood Education, Counselling, and Industrial Arts. The deadline for online applications to the TSLS is set for January 31, 2025. Successful applicants will be informed about their interview dates and venues through email and phone notifications.
This initiative not only aims to elevate teaching standards but also fosters new opportunities for students to contribute positively to the education sector in Fiji. By encouraging passionate individuals to enter the field, the country can look forward to an enhanced educational landscape.
