Minister Charan Jeath Singh has officially taken on his new role as the Minister for Public Enterprises following a Cabinet reshuffle last year. His appointment comes at a time when there is a renewed emphasis on improving the performance of government-owned companies, which are essential for the nation’s economic landscape.

In addition to overseeing Public Enterprises, Minister Singh also manages the portfolios of Multi-Ethnic Affairs, Culture, Heritage, and Arts. Within his initial official engagements, he met with Acting Permanent Secretary Laisa Bolalevu and senior management from the ministry. This meeting allowed him to gain insights into the ministry’s operations, strategic goals, and the current performance of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) under their jurisdiction.

Minister Singh expressed that his new position reflects the Prime Minister’s confidence in his capacity to bring about reforms and enhancements within government enterprises. He emphasized that improving the performance of SOEs is critical for stimulating national economic growth, creating job opportunities, and enhancing service delivery across the board.

Additionally, he commended the efforts of Acting Permanent Secretary Bolalevu and the senior management team while also acknowledging the valuable contributions made by the former minister who held the portfolio prior to him. Minister Singh is committed to collaborating closely with the ministry, SOE boards, and management to meet the government’s objectives of establishing stronger and more sustainable public enterprises, heralding a potentially bright future for the sector.
