Richard Walker, the former head coach of the USA Women’s 7s team, has been officially named the new head coach of the Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s team, as confirmed by the Fiji Rugby Union (FRU). He takes the helm following the departure of Saiasi Fuli, who completed his term in December.

With a robust coaching background spanning over 15 years, Walker has amassed extensive experience across different tiers of rugby, having held prominent roles with USA Rugby, Japan Women’s 7s, and Auckland Storm. He is particularly noted for maintaining high-performance standards and boasts an impressive history that includes leading the Seattle Seawolves to a Major League Rugby Championship, as well as coaching the USA Women’s 7s team during significant events like the Rio Olympics and the World Cup in San Francisco, where they significantly outperformed expectations.

The FRU has shown strong confidence in Walker’s capability to developments within the Fijiana 7s squad, especially focusing on player growth and strategic leadership. His deep international experience is viewed as critical for preparing the team for imminent challenges, including the HSBC SVNS Series and their journey towards Olympic qualification.

In addition, the FRU has recognized the efforts of interim Head Coach Timoci Volavola and anticipates a collaborative approach to bolster the team’s performance on the global stage.
