The recently inaugurated Kamikamica Park Multipurpose Court in Raffle Range, Lautoka, is set to significantly contribute to the development of sports and community involvement in the region. With an investment of $171,439.39, this facility is designed to boost youth participation in various sports, aiming to cultivate the next generation of Fijian athletes.

Equipped for a range of activities, including volleyball, netball, and basketball, the court offers a vital space for both training and competitions for the youth. During the opening ceremony, Minister for Youth and Sports, Jese Saukuru, emphasized the broader impact of the court, stating, “This project is more than just a sporting facility; it is an investment in our young people, a symbol of our commitment to community development, and a stepping stone toward greater sporting excellence.”

Saukuru highlighted the positive effects of sports on discipline, teamwork, and social connections, stressing that the court will serve as a safe space for youth to develop their skills and mitigate challenges such as unemployment and social pressures. He encouraged young athletes to embrace this opportunity, urging them to “Train hard, play fair, and let this court be a stepping stone to your dreams.”

The facility will be managed by the Lautoka City Council and the Fiji Sports Council, ensuring its ongoing accessibility and sustainability within the community. This initiative aligns with Fiji’s National Sports and Physical Activity Policy, which aims to expand sporting infrastructure and encourage participation in sports nationwide.

The Kamikamica Park Multipurpose Court reflects similar initiatives across Fiji, such as the multipurpose court recently inaugurated in Tuatua Housing, Labasa. These efforts are indicative of the government’s commitment to enhancing sports infrastructure and promoting youth engagement throughout the islands.

Overall, the establishment of the Kamikamica Park Multipurpose Court marks a hopeful milestone in nurturing local talent, fostering community spirit, and paving the way for future sporting achievements in Fiji. The continued focus on improving sports facilities showcases a promising trend towards empowering youth and enhancing overall community health through active participation in sports.
