Commuters at the newly upgraded Lautoka bus terminal can look forward to enhanced security as a result of a comprehensive surveillance system. Taitusi Rasoki, chairperson of the Lautoka Board of Special Administrators, announced that the terminal’s $2.8 million upgrade includes the installation of CCTV cameras aimed at monitoring and reducing criminal activity in the area.

Rasoki noted that the decision to implement a CCTV system is part of a broader initiative by the council and the Ministry of Local Government to address escalating concerns around drugs and other criminal activities in Lautoka. “As we know, the criminal elements are on the rise in Fiji, especially concerning drug-related issues,” he remarked, emphasizing the necessity of identifying and monitoring key hotspots to ensure the safety of the community.

This initiative not only aligns with governmental expectations for safe and functional public infrastructure but also represents a proactive approach to fostering security within the city. By implementing such measures, officials hope to create a safer environment for all residents and commuters, responding directly to the community’s growing concerns regarding safety.
