Students at Vatulula Primary School in Bua will experience enhanced transportation options thanks to the donation of a new boat and engine valued at $24,000. The handover ceremony was officiated by the Minister for Education, Hon. Aseri Radrodro, during his visit to the school.
The new boat is set to alleviate the daily travel difficulties faced by students who rely on maritime transport to navigate challenging conditions in order to attend school. Minister Radrodro highlighted the significance of education in remote areas, reiterating the Coalition Government’s commitment to ensuring all students have access to education, regardless of geographical barriers.
He encouraged local communities, including Tawake District and Wainika Primary School, to support education initiatives and emphasized the importance of collaboration among parents and teachers. Following the official handover, a talanoa session was conducted, fostering open dialogue between the Minister and community members about the issues impacting education delivery in rural settings.
This initiative comes on the heels of similar projects where the Ministry of Education has provided boats to schools in remote areas, like the 23-foot boat delivered to Rewa Secondary School and St. Joseph’s Primary School. Such efforts underline the government’s dedication to enhancing educational facilities and ensure that children in isolated regions can access quality education.
Providing these resources symbolizes hope and a positive future for educational access in Fiji, helping to bridge the gap in transportation challenges faced by students in rural areas. The successful implementation of such transportation initiatives will continue to empower communities, making strides toward educational equity.
