The Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection, Sashi Kiran, has announced significant progress in the establishment of drug recovery centers intended for adolescent boys and girls. Following months of careful preparation, the residential care facilities are now ready to be launched, with a government quarters in Domain designated as the center’s location.
In her statement, Minister Kiran expressed gratitude towards the Ministry of Health and Medical Services, led by Atonio Lalabalavu, acknowledging their integral support and guidance as this vital initiative moves forward. She highlighted the collaborative efforts with Empower Pacific in developing these crucial recovery centers.
“This project has involved extensive planning, construction, and capacity-building,” Ms. Kiran stated. “After months of hard work, we are excited to finally have the residential care facilities ready.” In addition to the residential units, she shared that a day-care recovery facility is expected to commence operations later this month, further enhancing support for adolescents facing substance abuse challenges.
The centers aim to deliver structured recovery and rehabilitation support in response to the growing concern of drug-related issues among young people. This initiative represents a comprehensive approach by the government to tackle substance abuse and promote wellness among adolescents, highlighting a commitment to the health and futures of its youth.
