Students at Namara District School in the Yasawa Islands are now benefiting from significantly improved hygiene and educational conditions following the inauguration of a new ablution block, valued at $200,000. This development was made possible through a collaboration between Barefoot Collections and the Drawaqa Trust as part of the Duavata Project.

Construction of the facility commenced in September 2024 and reached completion in March this year. Education Minister Aseri Radrodro officiated the inauguration, emphasizing that the new ablution block is expected to promote better health outcomes for students, in line with the Ministry’s Child Protection Policy. He also highlighted that the school serves 88 students from Namara, Yamata, and Naboro villages, boasting a strong academic record with a reported 89% Year 8 pass rate in 2024.

Minister Radrodro expressed gratitude towards the partners involved in the project, as well as the school staff and the broader community for their roles in enhancing educational standards in rural areas. This addition aligns with parallel initiatives across Fiji, such as the opening of other ablution blocks at various schools, like the recent introduction at Waidra Muslim Primary School, which reflects the government’s commitment to improving learning environments nationwide.

By prioritizing infrastructure improvements like these, Fiji is fostering a hopeful and positive outlook for education, as enhanced facilities pave the way for students to achieve academic success while encouraging overall well-being and development. These upgrades serve as a reminder of the dedication to ensuring all children, regardless of their background, have access to a conducive learning environment.
