The High Court in Lautoka is set to deliver a ruling on an injunction application on Thursday, which has been filed by Dr. Ram Raju, the ousted president of the Nadi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI). This legal move aims to prevent current president Lawrence Kumar from continuing in his role while the matter is resolved.

Justice Sekonaia Vodokisolomone presided over today’s proceedings, where it was noted that there are parallels between Dr. Raju’s injunction application and his originating summons. Represented by Arunesh Achal of Zoyab Legal, Dr. Raju’s counsel seeks a ruling regarding the interim injunction application, while Elvis Dass represents the defendants, including Mr. Kumar and the NCCI interim secretary, Shalendra Prasad.

Justice Vodokisolomone emphasized that while the matter deserves further evaluation, it does not imply that the interim injunction will be granted. He highlighted concerns about the continuity of governance during this pivotal time for the chamber, noting that the leadership teams should ideally transition smoothly without disruption.

As this case unfolds, it echoes broader discussions around governance within the NCCI, which has witnessed internal strife and a call for transparency following allegations of financial mismanagement under Dr. Raju’s leadership. Just last month, during a vote of no confidence, nearly 100 members actively chose to elect new leadership, voicing their desire for reform and accountability.

This ongoing legal battle not only highlights the complexities of organizational governance but also reflects a community-driven demand for enhanced leadership practices that better serve local businesses. Stakeholders remain optimistic that the outcome may pave the way for positive change and revitalization within the NCCI, ultimately fostering a more dynamic business environment in Nadi.

The court’s ruling is highly anticipated as it could significantly impact the future direction of the NCCI and its approach to governance.
