The Fijian Broadcasting Corporation (FBC) is gearing up to bring fans the much-anticipated 38th Fiji Bitter Nawaka 7s, which will be broadcast live on the FBC Sports channel, complete with a pay-per-view option for international viewers. Scheduled for March 14th and 15th at Prince Charles Park in Nadi, this tournament signifies a significant chapter in the development of grassroots rugby in Fiji.

Tournament Coordinator Jeffery Tamata underscored the event’s commitment to uplifting grassroots rugby, describing this year’s occasion as a continuation of a nearly four-decade-long tradition. He pointed out, “The main focus is on the grassroots level of rugby in Fiji, and we are incredibly grateful for the support received from FBC and various sponsors.” This emphasis on community and player development reflects the growing support for local talents.

In alignment with this vision, FBC TV General Manager Sitiveni Halofaki highlighted the importance of the partnership in bolstering grassroots rugby. He noted that nurturing local talent resonates with one of FBC’s core values, demonstrating their commitment to both the community and the sport.

Continuing the legacy of past tournaments, this year’s Nawaka 7s aims to celebrate rugby while simultaneously providing young players with the opportunity to showcase their abilities and potentially rise to higher levels. This event is a part of the broader Fiji Bitter Sevens series, consisting of 12 tournaments across the nation, each serving as a platform for aspiring athletes.

Furthermore, the Nawaka 7s will occur in close proximity to the Marist 7s, offering grassroots players a unique chance to compete in two major events in succession. This arrangement enhances their visibility and opportunity for advancement in the sport.

Overall, as Fiji strives to promote rugby through such community-based initiatives, the excitement surrounding the upcoming Nawaka 7s highlights the vital role sports play in fostering unity, development, and a dynamic local culture throughout the nation.
