Navua has been eliminated from the 2024 Flick Hygiene Pacific Community Cup following a 3-1 defeat against Manukau All Stars at Churchill Park in Lautoka. This crucial match determined their fate in Group A of the tournament.

With this victory, the Manukau All Stars have secured their spot in the semifinals set for tomorrow. The match saw Ni-Vanuatu player Alex Saniel score the opening goal in the 15th minute, providing Manukau with an early advantage. Captain Jack Caunter then increased their lead before halftime, and Garbhan Coughlan, the tournament’s leading scorer, solidified their control of the game with a goal shortly after the break.

The situation became more challenging for Navua when their goalkeeper, Jovilisi Borisi, was sent off due to violent conduct, leaving the team with only ten players. Despite this setback, defender Filipe Baravilala managed to score late in the match, pulling one goal back for Navua.

As Manukau progresses to the semifinals, the remaining spot will be filled by either the host team Lautoka or AuFFI All Stars, who are set to compete in the final match of the day.

This turn of events highlights the fierce competition in the tournament and the unpredictability of knockout games. While Navua’s journey in the Cup has come to an end, their determination and effort on the field should be acknowledged, and they can look ahead to future tournaments with the experience gained from this year’s competition.
