Mohammed Isaq has spent over four decades working at the Nausori Market, experiencing a plethora of changes and obstacles alongside his fellow vendors. Now in his 42nd year, Isaq observes a noticeable decline in business, which has made it increasingly difficult for many vendors to meet their financial obligations each week.

“Nowadays it’s very hard to pay because business is very slack, very low,” Isaq shared, reflecting on the challenges they are currently facing. Despite these hardships, he remains optimistic about the collaboration with the Town Council, which has actively engaged with vendors to address their concerns.

“They give us the time to pay. They come, they discuss with the vendors how you can pay,” Isaq noted, emphasizing the importance of this partnership during tough economic times.

Furthermore, Isaq appreciates the positive changes implemented by the Town Council, which include enhanced facilities and consistent waste collection at the market. He remarked, “Usually in this new market they provide everything for us. We got everything here.”

Isaq believes that maintaining open lines of communication between vendors and the council is essential for sustaining market services, even during challenging economic periods. His experiences highlight resilience and cooperative spirit among those at Nausori Market, demonstrating that with mutual support and dialogue, communities can navigate tough times together.
