After 12 years, the Nasinu Secondary School Under-18 rugby team has advanced beyond the Vodafone Deans Trophy quarterfinal. According to Nasinu U18 coach Semisi Yasiyasi, the last time the team reached this stage was in 2012.

This Saturday, the Southern Zone champions will compete against Cuvu College in the Deans Trophy semifinal at Suva’s HFC Bank Stadium. Nasinu secured their place in the semifinals by defeating Tailevu North College with a score of 17-13 in the quarterfinal match.

“This achievement is a result of hard work and dedication from the boys,” Yasiyasi remarked. He noted that while the team holds confidence, they prioritize humility and the sacrifices made throughout the season.

Yasiyasi acknowledged that Cuvu College, their semifinal opponent, poses a formidable challenge after they narrowly defeated Ratu Kadavulevu School 23-22 in the quarterfinals. “This week, we’ll focus on refining certain aspects of our game,” he added.

Over the years, Nasinu Secondary School has produced notable rugby talent, including players like Lemeki Koroi, Setareki Tawake, former France winger Virimi Vakatawa, Sakeo Raloa, and current Wallabies winger Marika Koroibete.

Yasiyasi urged former students, parents, and guardians of Nasinu Secondary School to support the team in their upcoming semifinal match.
