The Nasinu Women’s Rugby team has established itself as a formidable competitor in the Fiji Sports Council’s under-20 7s tournament, achieving an impressive milestone by reaching their fifth final after a strong 10-0 win against the Lilian Amazon team in the semi-finals.
Head coach Tomasi Katonivualiku praised the team’s incredible journey to the finals, highlighting their consistent performance throughout the tournament. The team recorded victories in the Nadroga, Savusavu, and Rakiraki legs, and secured a runners-up finish at Thompson Park in Navua.
“We approached each match one at a time, steadily progressing through the tournament,” stated Katonivualiku.
Despite losing several players to the national team for a tournament in Dubai and others to Rugby League, the team has continued to thrive with the addition of new talent. Coach Katonivualiku emphasized the significance of new members joining the squad this year. “We are fortunate that these girls have stepped up to be part of this team. Their dedication during training has played a vital role in our success, and I can see the confidence growing among the players.”
