The Nasinu women’s rugby team defended their Pio Bosco Trophy title with a thrilling 43-35 victory over Namosi in Suva. Despite facing a fierce second-half challenge from their opponents, Nasinu managed to hold onto their lead, showcasing their resilience and skill in a closely contested match. Nasinu had previously claimed the trophy from Suva in an earlier round, highlighting their growing stature in the sport.
Under the guidance of head coach Tomasi Katonivualiku, the team, composed largely of players under the age of 20, adhered to their game plan effectively. Katonivualiku expressed pride in his team, acknowledging that winning the Bosco was not initially targeted for this year. Last year marked their debut at the Marama level, where they finished in the top four, and this year, their aim was to secure a spot in the top eight and finish the season among the top two.
Maintaining an unbeaten record, Nasinu has demonstrated consistent performance and an ambition to exceed set targets, including scoring more than four tries per game. The coach emphasized the importance of self-trust among the players, which has been instilled as a crucial element of their strategy.
Looking ahead, Nasinu is set to face Naitasiri, with hopes of continuing their successful run. Their recent achievements not only reinforce their dominance but also signal the vibrant competitive spirit in Fijian rugby, inspiring both the team and aspiring athletes. With strategic excellence and teamwork, Nasinu appears well-prepared for future challenges, embodying the promise of ongoing success in the sport.
