After a 12-year hiatus, the Nasinu Secondary School Under-18 rugby team has advanced beyond the quarterfinals of the Vodafone Deans Trophy. Coach Semisi Yasiyasi noted that the last time they progressed this far was in 2012.

This Saturday, the Southern Zone champions will compete against Cuvu College in the Deans Trophy semifinal, which will take place at Suva’s HFC Bank Stadium. They secured their place in the semifinals by defeating Tailevu North College with a score of 17-13 in the quarterfinal match.

Yasiyasi expressed pride in his team, attributing their success to hard work and dedication. “The boys have made sacrifices and, while they are confident, they have chosen to remain humble,” he stated. He acknowledged the challenge posed by Cuvu College, who recently upset Ratu Kadavulevu School with a narrow 23-22 victory.

In preparation for the semifinal, Yasiyasi emphasized the importance of refining specific aspects of their game. Over the years, Nasinu Secondary School has produced notable rugby players, including Lemeki Koroi, Setareki Tawake, former France winger Virimi Vakatawa, Sakeo Raloa, and current Wallabies winger Marika Koroibete.

The coach has reached out to former students, parents, and guardians, encouraging them to support the team in their upcoming semifinal match.
