After a 12-year wait, the Nasinu Secondary School Under-18 rugby team has advanced beyond the quarterfinals of the Vodafone Deans Trophy. Coach Semisi Yasiyasi noted that the last time the team reached this stage was in 2012.
This Saturday, the Southern Zone champions will take on Cuvu College in the semifinals at Suva’s HFC Bank Stadium, following their quarterfinal victory against Tailevu North College, where they won 17-13.
Yasiyasi praised the team’s hard work and determination, saying, “For the boys to make it to this stage is through sheer hard work and dedication.” He emphasized their commitment to humility despite their confidence.
He also acknowledged the strong competition they will face, as Cuvu College recently defeated Ratu Kadavulevu School with a close score of 23-22. “For this week, we’ll work on some areas of our game that need to be perfected,” Yasiyasi added.
Nasinu Secondary School has a history of producing outstanding rugby talent, including Lemeki Koroi, Setareki Tawake, former France winger Virimi Vakatawa, Sakeo Raloa, and current Wallabies winger Marika Koroibete. Yasiyasi has appealed for support from former students, parents, and guardians ahead of the semifinal match.
