The Nasinu Women’s Rugby team has proven to be a formidable contender in the Fiji Sports Council’s under-20 7s tournament, successfully making their way to the finals for the fifth time with a strong 10-0 win over the Lilian Amazon team in the semi-finals held yesterday.

Head coach Tomasi Katonivualiku reflected on the team’s impressive journey throughout the tournament, where they demonstrated consistent performance. The team celebrated victories in the Nadroga, Savusavu, and Rakiraki competitions, and finished as runners-up in Thompson Park in Navua.

Katonivualiku emphasized the importance of taking each match step by step, allowing them to concentrate and excel progressively through the tournament. Despite some players departing for opportunities with the national team in Dubai and commitments to Rugby League, the arrival of new talents has strengthened the team.

“Our team has welcomed several new girls this year. While we’ve lost some key players to higher levels of play, we are grateful for the willingness of these new players to step up,” stated Katonivualiku. “Their dedication and hard work in training have played a crucial role in our success, and it’s clear that the players are growing in confidence.”

This shows not only the resilience and adaptability of the Nasinu Women’s Rugby team but also the bright future ahead with the infusion of new talent dedicated to the sport. Their achievements highlight the thriving rugby culture in Fiji and the potential for continued success as they approach the finals.

By fostering new talent while maintaining a solid foundation, the Nasinu Women’s Rugby team stands as a beacon of hope and determination in the sporting community, inspiring other teams and young athletes across the region.
