The possibility of former Fiji 7s player Amenoni Nasilasila returning to the national team remains open, according to Fiji Airways Fiji men’s 7s head coach Osea Kolinisau. Speaking after a training session at Albert Park in Suva, Kolinisau expressed his willingness to reintegrate Nasilasila into the squad following an impressive performance during the McDonald’s Coral Coast Fiji 7s held last week in Sigatoka.
Kolinisau emphasized his confidence in Nasilasila’s abilities, stating, “I told Noni; I don’t doubt what you got. It’s just you need to get fit and go play local tournaments.” Nasilasila, who is currently back in action, showcased his impact while playing as a playmaker for the Yaro Chiefs, demonstrating his skill in controlling the pace and flow of the game.
Nasilasila’s recent activities have generated considerable public interest, particularly since he contributed to the Yaro Chiefs’ victory at the Coral Coast 7s, securing a $50,000 prize. His earlier support of the Malolo senior men’s rugby team, which won the Skipper Cup for the first time last year, has further fueled discussions among rugby fans and analysts alike about his potential return to the national 7s team.
While Kolinisau acknowledges Nasilasila’s capacity to enhance the squad’s depth, he also noted concerns about public perception regarding their history as former teammates under past 7s coach Ben Ryan. The two players were integral to a transformative period in Fijian 7s rugby, which culminated in the country’s first Olympic gold medal in Rio 2016.
Kolinisau is set to announce the final squad for the upcoming Singapore 7s today, with many eyes on whether Nasilasila will be included in the lineup. The renewed interest in his talent highlights the hope that he may once again contribute to Fiji’s renowned rugby legacy.
