The Fiji Roads Authority has announced a temporary overnight closure of Nasau Bridge 1 on Nasau Road in Nadi to carry out urgent repairs to the bridge deck after officials raised concerns about its accelerated deterioration. The closure will begin at 9:00pm on Saturday, 28 March 2026 and is scheduled to end at 6:00am on Sunday, 29 March.

FRA said the short, concentrated work window is intended to allow crews to address critical defects on the deck while minimising disruption to daytime traffic. Detour routes around the bridge will be clearly signposted with advisory signs, and traffic controllers will be deployed to manage vehicle and pedestrian movements through the area during the closure. The authority stressed that the schedule remains subject to weather conditions and could be adjusted if adverse conditions affect safety or the ability of crews to work.

In its public notice, the FRA urged road users to follow posted signage and the instructions of traffic controllers to ensure the safety of motorists, pedestrians and work crews. The authority thanked the public for their patience and cooperation while the essential maintenance is carried out and said it will provide updates should the programme change.

The Nasau Bridge 1 intervention is the latest in a string of targeted night works and emergency repairs overseen by the FRA in recent months. In November 2025 the authority implemented nightly closures on the Rewa Bridge in Nausori to facilitate upgrades while maintaining limited access, and earlier in 2025 emergency works were ordered on a wooden bridge in Tunalia following concerns about structural condition. Those examples underscore the agency’s approach of scheduling high-priority repairs outside peak daytime hours to reduce traffic impacts while responding swiftly where safety risks are identified.

Local commuters and businesses that rely on Nasau Road for night-time or early-morning travel may need to factor the short closure into their plans. While the FRA expects the work to be completed within the announced window, the authority’s reminder that weather could delay operations signals that motorists should monitor official channels for any last-minute changes.

FRA did not provide further technical details about the nature of the deck deterioration in its announcement, but described the works as urgent. More information is expected to be issued if the duration of the closure is extended or if additional restrictions become necessary to complete the repairs safely.
