Nanumiau triumphed in the FMF Navosa Netball Tournament, clinching the championship title with a narrow 11–8 victory over Qwalimavua in the main cup final held at Vatureba Ground. The two-day event showcased intense competition among a total of 20 teams, reflecting the vibrant netball spirit in the region.
Nanumiau earned their place in the finals after a competitive semi-final match against Henibua, winning with a score of 10–8. Meanwhile, Qwalimavua advanced to the final by overcoming Heni Ivi in another gripping semi-final, which ended 9–7 in their favor.
Tournament coordinator Judy Kumar expressed her satisfaction with the event’s success, stating that the competition delivered exciting and competitive netball throughout its duration. She noted the impressive performance of legendary player Elenoa Vatureba, who captivated fans and participants alike.
In addition to their championship victory, Nanumiau also received the Best Qualifier 1 accolade after a closely contested match against the youthful Qwalivula 1 team, coached by Sadam Bainivalu. Kumar attributed Nanumiau’s success to the skilled leadership of former Fiji Pearls squad members Robyn Vula and Chivalele, along with several senior players who played crucial roles in steering the team to victory.
The FMF Navosa Netball Tournament not only highlighted the talent within the sport but also fostered a sense of community and camaraderie among the participating teams, showcasing the bright future for netball in Navosa.
