Namaka Public School (NPS) has received recognition as the top primary school in the Lautoka/Nadi/Yasawa district for 2024, a significant achievement that enhances its bid for the regional award. The Ministry of Education presented the accolade last Friday, celebrating the school’s commitment to excellence.
Head teacher Arvin Kumar expressed pride in the award, stating that it serves as motivation for the school management and faculty to continually enhance their educational offerings. He emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts among stakeholders to foster an optimal learning environment and provide comprehensive education to all students.
Established in 1962, NPS is a multi-racial, co-educational institution that serves local students as well as those commuting from areas like Lautoka and Korovuto. The school has a vibrant extracurricular program, excelling in netball, soccer, rugby, athletics, swimming, and cricket. Notably, 36 students were part of this year’s Nadi athletics team, and swimming has been introduced for kindergarten students.
With a total enrollment of 1,347 students and a dedicated team of 33 teachers, the school has shown impressive academic performance, with 85 percent of its Year 8 students passing their examinations and securing places in esteemed secondary schools for the following year.
In terms of infrastructure, NPS has recently completed a $400,000 multipurpose hall that will support various school activities and generate additional income. Mr. Kumar noted further improvements, including the construction of a walkway and mini theatre, along with investments in technology to enhance learning experiences. The school also boasts a full-sized playground for soccer and rugby.
Looking ahead, NPS has laid out an ambitious 10-year master plan that aims to add 15 new classrooms, a science lab, a library, restrooms, and a swimming pool, ensuring that it continues to provide a high-quality education in a supportive environment.
Overall, the achievements of Namaka Public School highlight the dedication of its staff and community, paving the way for a bright future in education. This positive momentum not only uplifts the school but also sets a valuable example for other educational institutions in the region.
