The Fiji Police Force has firmly refuted claims circulating on social media regarding the closure of the investigation into the missing drug exhibits from Namaka. According to the Police, the Criminal Investigations Department initiated the probe in 2020 and subsequently forwarded the case file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) on June 14, 2022, seeking independent legal advice.

The police highlighted that this referral was made to uphold the investigation’s integrity, particularly since the case includes allegations involving police officers. Notably, the case file has not yet been returned by the DPP, indicating that the investigation is still active.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Crime, Mesake Waqa, reinforced the importance of responsible social media usage, echoing the sentiments of Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu. He urged the community to disseminate information only when it is verified and factual, emphasizing the need for discernment among social media users to prevent the spread of misinformation.

This reiteration from the police comes at a time when misinformation can easily spiral, highlighting the importance of accurate communication in maintaining public trust in law enforcement. The situation serves as a reminder of the critical role that responsible information sharing plays in our digital age.
