The Fiji Police Force has refuted claims about the conclusion of the investigation into missing drug exhibits from the Namaka Police Station, asserting that the inquiry has not been closed or labeled as “no further action.”

In an official statement, authorities clarified that the investigation, led by the Criminal Investigations Department in 2020, was forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions on June 14, 2022, to receive independent legal counsel. This step was crucial to maintain the integrity of the investigation, especially given that the case involves allegations against police officers.

The police department emphasized that the case file has yet to be returned from the prosecutorial office.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Crime, Mesake Waqa, echoed the sentiments of Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu, urging the public to exercise caution regarding the information shared on social media. He highlighted the importance of accuracy and the verification of facts to avoid spreading rumors that could jeopardize public trust and the ongoing investigation.

This focus on responsible communication underscores the police’s commitment to transparency and accountability, reinforcing the notion that public integrity is paramount in the pursuit of justice. The situation continues to develop, with law enforcement officials working diligently to uphold the law and protect community trust.
