Fiji Airports recently achieved recognition at the Pacific Area Travel Writers Association (PATWA) International Travel Awards 2026 held in Berlin, Germany. Nadi International Airport earned the title of Best Airport in the South Pacific Islands, and Fiji Airports’ Chief Executive Officer, Mesake Nawari, was honored with the prestigious PATWA Gold Award for Excellence in Leadership in Airports for the South Pacific Islands.

The PATWA International Travel Awards celebrate exceptional contributions to tourism promotion and leadership within the global travel and aviation sector. The accolades cover a wide range of recipients, including airlines, hotels, travel agencies, and tourism ministries, highlighting the collaborative effort across the industry.

The awards were presented on March 4, 2026, during the PATWA World Tourism Leaders’ Summit, with the Secretary General of PATWA, Yatan Ahluwalia, handing out the honors. Nawari expressed pride in this achievement, emphasizing its significance for both Fiji Airports and Fiji as a notable tourism destination. He credited the dedication and hard work of the staff and airport stakeholders, who ensure the airports operate with safety, efficiency, and the renowned warmth of Fiji.

The recognition of Nadi International Airport underscores Fiji Airports’ ongoing investment in infrastructure, service quality, safety, and the enhancement of passenger experiences. It exemplifies what Nawari referred to as the “Bula spirit,” which Fiji aims to impart to every traveler arriving through its primary aviation hub.

As the main gateway connecting Fiji to the world, Nadi International Airport plays an essential role in supporting tourism, trade, and economic growth. Looking ahead, Nawari noted that the future of the aviation industry will be influenced by sustainability, innovation, and changing traveler expectations.

He asserted that over the next decade, advancements in sustainability, customer experience, and technology will shape the travel landscape. Fiji Airports is dedicated to balancing these priorities by reducing its environmental footprint and embracing cutting-edge technologies to create seamless travel experiences.

Nawari expressed gratitude to board members, staff, airline partners, government agencies, tourism stakeholders, and the traveling public for their ongoing support. These recognitions not only affirm Fiji Airports’ stature as a regional leader in aviation excellence but also its commitment to connecting Fiji to the world while striving to fulfill its vision of becoming the World-Class Aviation Hub for the Blue Pacific.
