Nadi Giants produced a dominant display to book their place in the semi-finals of the Crest Fiji Primary Schools Netball competition, downing the Cakau Sharks 7-2 in the Under-9 Tier One quarter-final at Subrail Park in Labasa. The victory advances the Giants to the next knockout round as the tournament moves deeper into its primary-school age divisions.
The Giants asserted control early, building a 3-1 lead by halftime through accurate shooting and composed ball movement. Nadi’s shooters found the circle with regularity inside the opening stages, while the midcourt maintained possession and fed the front line effectively, preventing the Sharks from mounting sustained attacking pressure.
Cakau Sharks managed occasional forays into the scoring area but struggled to penetrate Nadi’s structured defence. The Sharks’ attackers found space scarce as Giants defenders repeatedly intercepted or pressured passes, forcing turnovers and rushed attempts. Those defensive stops proved decisive in keeping the Sharks to just two goals across the full 20-minute contest.
Nadi increased the tempo after the break, converting a sequence of opportunities to extend their advantage and put the result beyond doubt. A second-half flurry of goals reflected both the Giants’ improved rhythm in transition and their ability to capitalise on Cakau errors. The 7-2 final scoreline underlined Nadi’s two-way strength: reliable finishing at the circle and a defence that rarely afforded clear sightlines to goal for the opposition.
With this win the Nadi Giants join the semi-final line-up in the Under-9 Tier One bracket, where they will await their next opponent as the Crest Fiji Primary Schools Netball tournament progresses. The result will be a welcome boost for Nadi’s young squad as they continue their campaign on the national primary-school stage in Labasa.
