Angry scenes erupted at Nadi International Airport early this morning as passengers awaiting a flight to Auckland expressed their frustration over the cancellation of their Fiji Airways journey. The flight, originally set to leave on Saturday at 11:10 a.m., was delayed multiple times throughout the day—first to 6:55 p.m., then to 10:35 p.m., and eventually projected to depart at 1:45 a.m. on Sunday. Ultimately, passengers were informed that the flight had been cancelled altogether.
Footage captured from the airport showcased the discontent of travellers who voiced their complaints about exhaustion, insufficient communication from the airline, and uncertainty regarding rebooking. Amid the chaos, Fiji Airways did offer $30 meal vouchers to those affected while they awaited further information overnight.
In an official statement, Fiji Airways attributed the disruptions to operational issues. They further explained that flight FJ418, which was scheduled to return from Auckland to Nadi, experienced a delay of approximately seven hours and has been rescheduled to depart on 21 December at 12:00 a.m. local time.
This incident underscores the struggles many airlines face in maintaining schedules due to unforeseen circumstances. Passengers are hopeful that with better communication and management, similar situations can be alleviated in the future.
