Lawyer Saimoni Nacolawa expressed immense relief after the High Court in Lautoka dismissed charges of sedition and political violence against him and 25 others on Thursday. Justice Samuela Qica determined that there was no case to answer for the group regarding allegations of plotting to overthrow the government back in 2015, citing a lack of credible evidence from the prosecution.
Describing the decade-long legal battle as the most challenging experience of his career, Nacolawa recounted how he became embroiled in the situation through a client who had mentioned his name on a laptop. He acknowledged the vital role his legal team played throughout the process, stating that their unwavering support helped him when he had lost hope.
“My family went through a very difficult experience, but they were extremely pleased with the final judgment,” Nacolawa remarked. He shared his plans for the future, stating that he looks forward to enjoying more time with his family and anticipates retiring by the end of the year. This judgment marks a significant turning point for Nacolawa, allowing him to embrace a new chapter in his life free of the burdens he has carried for so long.
