Plans are underway to relocate the nine vendors currently operating behind the Vatuwaqa Bus Stop in Nabua, according to Tevita Boseiwaqa, the Chief Executive Officer of Suva City Council. He confirmed that the council is actively working to identify a permanent and safer location for these vendors, emphasizing that their current situation is only a temporary solution.
Boseiwaqa addressed concerns voiced by Nabua Market vendors who highlighted the issue of the vendors behind the bus stop not paying stall fees. He reassured them that the council is taking a careful approach. “We cannot just remove them like that. We have to find a place for them where they can sell at the same time, not denying the rights of the Nabua vendors,” he stated.
Despite this, there seems to be a lack of communication regarding the relocation plans. Market vendor Iliesa Butuivalu expressed that they had not been formally informed about any upcoming changes. “We were given the green light to sell here, and we thought it was confirmed, but we were not aware that we would be relocated,” he said.
As the Suva City Council continues its search for a suitable permanent location, the vendors at the Vatuwaqa Bus Stop are calling for clearer communication on the matter, hoping to stay informed as plans develop. This situation highlights an important balance between ensuring fair business operations and maintaining open lines of communication within the vendor community.
