The Matua Programme at Nabua Secondary School, located near Suva, is making a remarkable impact on the lives of its students. This initiative provides a second chance for young individuals, primarily school drop-outs who faced personal challenges that interrupted their high school education. The program offers them a fresh start, fostering new opportunities for personal and academic growth.
Nabua Secondary School stands out as the only institution in Fiji that provides this valuable program. Over the past 20 years, it has welcomed hundreds of adult learners eager to complete their secondary education and further pursue tertiary studies.
Recently, more than 42 students proudly graduated from the program, with one of the graduates, Lusiana Turaga, sharing how the initiative inspired her to chase her educational ambitions. Turaga expressed her newfound hope, highlighting the diverse backgrounds of her fellow students, which enriched her learning experience.
Furthermore, Turaga noted that the program promotes social inclusion for older citizens, recognizing their contributions to society and ensuring they do not feel marginalized. It provides seniors with a chance to stay connected within their communities, enhancing their social well-being.
