The commissioning of the Nabouwalu Passenger Terminal marks an important milestone for maritime travel, as announced by the Minister for Local Government, Maciu Nalumisa. Alongside this new terminal, plans for the next phase of development are underway to enhance safety, accessibility, and comfort for passengers.

Minister Nalumisa has shared that the Department of Lands is currently processing the foreshore lease adjacent to the terminal. An advertisement period is in effect, allowing for any potential objections prior to the formal issuance of the lease. Once this lease is secured, the Ministry plans to conduct a land survey and Environmental Impact Assessment to facilitate the project’s next steps.

The upcoming phase will feature the construction of a 200-meter covered boardwalk that will create a direct link between the passenger terminal and the jetty. This addition is designed to improve travel conditions, providing a safer and more comfortable experience for commuters, even in inclement weather. The estimated investment for this project is around $1.5 million, with a thorough appraisal to be conducted based on current market trends.

In addition to the Nabouwalu upgrades, Minister Nalumisa has also confirmed that plans to enhance the Natovi Passenger Terminal are in the pipeline, with construction anticipated to commence in January 2026. This comprehensive approach to developing maritime infrastructure highlights the government’s commitment to fostering a modern, integrated travel hub that prioritizes the needs of the community. Such efforts are expected to significantly benefit maritime commuters in the region, enhancing connectivity and encouraging local economic growth.
