Swire Shipping Fijian Drua flanker Motikiai Murray has signed a contract extension with the team, reinforcing his commitment to the franchise for an additional two years. The announcement comes as the Drua highlights Murray’s impressive journey through the Fijian rugby system, which includes his upbringing in schools rugby at Ratu Kadavulevu School and contributions to the Fiji Under 20s and the Drua development program.

Murray, hailing from Lovoni Ovalau, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to continue with the team, saying, “I am deeply grateful and would like to thank the coaches for believing in me and my potential. I hope that I will make my family and this Club proud.”

The 21-year-old made his debut in the Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific during the 2023 quarterfinals against the Crusaders and has since made 12 appearances, scoring two tries and showcasing his remarkable skills on the pitch. Fijian Drua General Manager Rugby, Baden Stephenson, emphasized Murray’s blend of power and athletic ability, stating, “He really suits the way Drua wants to play, both in attack and defence.”

Murray’s leadership skills have been underlined by his role as a former captain of the Fiji Under 20s team, guiding them to a notable Top 10 finish at the Junior World Rugby Championship in South Africa in 2023. He has also played five matches for the Fiji Warriors, showcasing his growing prowess in rugby.
