A moist southeasterly wind flow is affecting the group, bringing a mix of showers and afternoon thunderstorms with pockets of heavy rain across many areas. The heaviest and most frequent downpours are expected over parts of Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, with isolated heavy falls elsewhere that could produce localised flash flooding in low-lying and flood-prone locations.
Occasional showers and isolated heavy falls are forecast for Serua–Namosi, Navua–Suva–Nausori, Tailevu–Naitasiri–Ra–Rakiraki, southern Bua, Cakaudrove and eastern Macuata. Taveuni, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands can expect cloudy periods with some showers. Elsewhere conditions will be generally fine apart from the chance of afternoon or evening showers, but note that afternoon thunderstorms with heavy falls are likely over Viti Levu and Vanua Levu.
Winds will be moderate to fresh from the southeasterly quadrant, and seas are expected to be moderate to rough. Those planning activities at sea or along exposed coasts should take care and allow extra time; drivers and residents in low-lying or flood-prone areas should be prepared for brief, intense downpours that may cause rapid surface runoff and localised flooding.
Local forecasts for tomorrow show temperatures ranging from the low-20s to mid-30s Celsius in most centres. Navua/Suva/Nausori are expected near 25–32°C with occasional showers and likely afternoon thunderstorms; Nadi/Lautoka/Ba around 23–34°C with fine spells but risk of evening storms; Labasa and the northern towns near 23–34°C with showers easing today but thunderstorms likely later; other centres including Sigatoka, Tavua/Rakiraki, Yasawa/Mamanuca, Savusavu, Nabouwalu, Taveuni, Lau/Lomaiviti and Kadavu are all forecast to see the familiar pattern of cloudy periods or fine spells punctuated by afternoon or evening thunderstorms and some heavy falls.
The outlook for Saturday remains much the same: cloudy periods with some showers in the western and northern corridors and the outlying island groups, with afternoon thunderstorms and heavy falls again possible over Viti Levu and Vanua Levu. Rotuma, currently in an easterly wind flow, is expected to see showers increase from later tomorrow as a trough approaches, with moderate easterly winds and moderate seas.
