A moist easterly wind flow will keep much of Fiji unsettled through tonight and into Tuesday, bringing cloudy periods and showers to eastern and interior areas and a risk of afternoon thunderstorms with heavy falls across Viti Levu and Vanua Levu. Localised heavy rain may cause flash flooding in low-lying and flood-prone communities, particularly where storms develop in the afternoon and evening.
Cloudy periods with showers are expected over the interior and eastern parts of Viti Levu—from Serua and Namosi through Navua and Greater Suva–Nausori to Tailevu North—along with interior Ra, the Yasawa group, Lau and the Lomaiviti group, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands, eastern Macuata and Cakaudrove provinces, southern Bua, and Taveuni and adjacent smaller islands. Elsewhere, conditions will be largely fine apart from afternoon or evening showers, but the potential for thunderstorms with heavy falls remains over the larger islands.
Moderate easterly winds and moderate seas are forecast for most of the group. Rotuma will experience similar moist easterly conditions but with winds tending moderate to fresh and seas moderate to rough; the island should expect cloudy periods with showers and possible thunderstorms. With the possibility of heavy localized rain and choppy conditions offshore, people in low-lying areas and those planning coastal or marine activities should take appropriate precautions.
Temperatures across many centres will be warm: Navua, Suva and Nausori are forecast around 24°C to 31°C today, rising to about 25°C to 32°C on Tuesday. Nadi, Lautoka and Ba, and the Coral Coast can expect daytime highs around 31–32°C and nighttime lows near 24°C today, with similar slightly warmer ranges on Tuesday. Labasa, Savusavu, Nabouwalu, Taveuni, Lau and Lomaiviti, and Kadavu are all likely to see overnight lows near 24°C and daytime highs around 31–32°C by Tuesday.
The outlook into Tuesday continues the pattern: cloudy periods with showers persisting over Serua–Namosi, Navua–Suva–Nausori, Tailevu–Naitasiri–Ra, southern Bua, Cakaudrove, eastern Macuata, Taveuni and nearby islands, Lau, Lomaiviti and Kadavu, while afternoon thunderstorms with heavy falls remain likely over Viti Levu and Vanua Levu. Be aware of the potential for flash flooding in affected low-lying and flood-prone districts until the heavier showers ease.
