Fiji Airways men’s 7s player Sevuloni Mocenacagi is set to make history this weekend as he surpasses former captain Jerry Tuwai’s record by becoming the most capped Fijian 7s player in the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series. Mocenacagi’s record will reach 65 appearances, solidifying his legacy in the sport.

Mocenacagi, who hails from Nukuilau in the highlands of Navosa and has played for the Yamacia club, is a product of former Fiji 7s coach Ben Ryan’s innovative coaching. This was a period marked by a significant upturn in Fijian rugby, often referred to as a golden era for the sport in the country. His journey in rugby began during the 2015/16 HSBC Sevens season when he made his debut in Dubai, swiftly making a name for himself as a player with remarkable agility and skill.

His continued inclusion in the national squad, including participation in the upcoming tournament in Vancouver, reflects his unyielding dedication and readiness to represent Fiji. Mocenacagi’s story, beginning over a decade ago, showcases not only his personal growth as a player but also highlights the broader impact of Fiji’s rugby talents on the international stage.

As he steps onto the field tomorrow, Mocenacagi carries with him the hopes of his nation and a legacy that will inspire future generations of Fijian rugby players. This achievement underscores the enduring spirit of commitment and excellence within Fiji’s rugby community.
