Online safety has emerged as a pressing concern for Fiji and the wider Pacific region, particularly as communities adapt to an increasingly digital landscape. The risks to personal dignity, cultural integrity, and mental wellbeing are escalating, especially among young women and girls. In light of this critical issue, establishing safe, respectful, and culturally sensitive online spaces has become paramount to safeguard future generations.

Addressing this pressing challenge, the Miss Pacific Islands Pageant (MPIP) 2026 will focus on online safety with the theme: “One Pacific, One Voice: Standing Together for Online Safety – Protecting dignity, culture, and connection in digital spaces.” This event is set to take place in February, bringing together queens from various Pacific nations to amplify their collective voice and advocacy on this vital topic.

Scheduled for February 13-14, the pageant will be held at the Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa in Denarau. Ahead of the main events, the programme will kick off on February 12 with the Research Topic Presentation at the Tanoa International Hotel in Nadi, where contestants will share their research and insights on critical regional issues. This element serves to highlight the intellectual capabilities of these young leaders and underscores their dedication to informed advocacy.

The following evening, audiences can look forward to a series of engaging competitions, including the sarong, talent displays, and contestant interviews. These segments will not only emphasize poise and creativity but also demonstrate a profound understanding of cultural heritage and the contestants’ visions for a safer digital future.

The climax of the pageant will unfold on February 14 during the final night of competition, featuring a category dedicated to Traditionally Inspired Attire, celebrating the rich cultural diversity of Pacific nations. This will culminate in the announcement of the top five finalists and a crowning ceremony, where one queen will be designated to represent the Pacific voice globally.

Miss Ana Tuiketei, the director of the Miss Fiji Pageant, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership with Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa, highlighting that their collaboration will significantly enhance the experience for both contestants and attendees. “This is more than a pageant; it’s a movement for positive change in our digital spaces,” Tuiketei affirmed.

The MPIP, which began in 1987, aims to foster regional solidarity and empower Pacific women to advocate for significant issues impacting their communities. From climate change to cultural preservation, and now online safety, these queens exemplify grace and dedication as they tackle the challenges facing their region.

Tickets for the judging nights will soon be available via Ticketmax. This exciting event invites everyone to join in Nadi to support the Pacific queens as they advocate for a safer digital future. The pageant promises not only to be a celebration of talent and culture but also a significant call to action for online safety across the region.
