Dr. Peggy Ravuisiro, the newly crowned Miss Fiji, has announced a groundbreaking focus for her reign centered on advocacy rather than traditional pageantry. She aims to shed light on the personal and often unspoken struggles faced by many Fijians, particularly those that occur within the home.

Having grown up in a split household, Dr. Ravuisiro is acutely aware of the long-term effects family breakdowns can have on children. Her mission emphasizes the importance of strengthening families and establishing safe spaces where young people can express themselves. “Whatever your grievances are, I’m here to hear them. Whatever you’re hurting about at home or whatever makes it difficult to have those conversations around your dinner table, I’ll be more than willing to listen to you. It’s not just about our beautiful Miss Pacific Island pageants; I’m Miss Fiji now,” she stated.

In her role as a medical graduate, Dr. Ravuisiro is particularly concerned about critical issues such as substance abuse, HIV and AIDS, and mental health challenges, which she believes often stem from a lack of communication in the home environment. She strongly encourages young people to embrace resilience rather than entitlement and to choose gratitude over a victim mentality.

As Fiji prepares to host the Miss Pacific Islands pageant in February, Dr. Ravuisiro believes that representing her country on home soil adds significant weight to her role. After a seven-year absence of strong regional representation, she hopes that Fijian girls will feel seen, valued, and empowered through her advocacy efforts.

Dr. Ravuisiro’s commitment to addressing these vital issues illustrates a positive shift in the role of beauty pageants, transforming them into platforms for meaningful social change. Her vision promises a future where open dialogues about personal struggles lead to stronger communities and healthier relationships within families.
