Claims of bullying and body shaming have emerged against the Miss Fiji Pageant Committee, sparking controversy within the beauty pageant community. Dr. Peggy Ravusiro, the current Miss Fiji 2025, addressed these allegations during a press conference, revealing that she and fellow contestants were subjected to unprofessional treatment throughout the pageant process.
Dr. Ravusiro shared her startling experience, stating that comments regarding her weight were made, with one particularly harsh remark implying that her weight could disqualify her from the competition. She highlighted that she was also criticized for the composition of her support team, which included former Ms. South Pacific Alisi Rabukawaqa.
While she recognized the significance of representing Fiji on a regional stage, Dr. Ravusiro emphasized that the way these concerns were communicated was inappropriate and damaging. “Through the lens of pageantry, we are selling female empowerment,” she asserted, stressing that such negative remarks do not align with the values that contestants should embody.
The Miss Fiji Pageant Committee has yet to publicly address Dr. Ravusiro’s claims but indicated that they would provide a response soon. This situation underscores the ongoing discussions around the treatment of contestants in beauty pageants and the need for a supportive environment that promotes empowerment rather than criticism.
