Minister for Local Government and Housing Maciu Nalumisa recently undertook a visit to the Northern Division to evaluate significant projects spearheaded by the Ministry of Housing, ensuring that these initiatives continue to address the needs of local communities effectively.
During his time in the Northern Division, Nalumisa engaged with vendors at the Labasa Municipal Market, the Nabouwalu Municipal Market, and kiosks at the Nabouwalu Passenger Terminal. This direct interaction allowed him to hear the concerns of traders and work towards practical solutions that could enhance their business operations.
Additionally, the minister held discussions with the management of the Municipal Council to explore ways to improve market operations and overall service delivery. This dialogue is crucial for fostering better relationships between local authorities and traders, aiming for a more efficient marketplace environment.
A highlight of Nalumisa’s visit was his focus on the Nabouwalu Passenger Terminal, which serves as a critical transportation hub for families, traders, and workers traveling between Viti Levu and Vanua Levu. The terminal has significantly enhanced the safety, comfort, and reliability for sea commuters, offering greater dignity and convenience for those traveling for work and personal obligations.
This visit is a testament to the Ministry’s strong commitment to inclusive development, emphasizing effective stakeholder engagement and responsive governance at the local level. As these projects progress, the Ministry aims to ensure that the benefits extend to the wider community, fostering economic growth and improving quality of life for residents in the Northern Division.
