Mahatma Gandhi Memorial High School (MGM) faced a challenging finish against Queen Victoria School (QVS) in their Vodafone Super Deans under-14 quarter-final match. MGM managed to secure an 18-15 victory despite QVS scoring two tries in the closing moments of the game, keeping the excited crowd engaged throughout the match.
With this win, MGM advances to the semi-finals, where they will compete against either Lelean Memorial School, Ratu Kadavulevu School, or Marist Brothers High School next weekend. Team manager Miriama Lutubulo emphasized the need for consistent training as they prepare for tougher competition ahead, stating, “We will train every day, work harder. As we go up we know it’s going to get tougher, but we will improve.”
MGM led 15-3 at halftime, with their only second-half points coming from a penalty. Lutubulo expressed pride in the team’s performance, saying, “It was very nerve-wracking, but we trusted our boys to hold the fort, and they did.” She highlighted that the players are motivated by playing for themselves, their families, their school, and their friends, noting the importance of parental support during the games.
