Metropolitan Security Canada has officially expanded into Fiji, launching Metropolitan Security Fiji in Suva last weekend with plans to bring Canadian operational standards and worker benefits to the local private security market.

The move was announced by Abhi Prasad, president and chief executive officer of Metropolitan Security Canada, who said the Fiji arm will mirror the professionalism and licensing regime his Canadian company has operated under since it was founded in 2000. “Our company operates with a fully licensed security business licence in Canada and we bring the same professional standards and operational excellence as we expand into Fiji,” Mr Prasad said at the launch. The Canadian firm has been operating for 26 years and employs about 264 people.

Metropolitan Security Fiji will provide a range of services, including a site security officer division, special event officers, a close protection division, concierge security services and a mobile security division. The business described its expansion as not only a commercial venture but an effort to “build partnerships, create employment opportunities, and contribute to the safety and development of Fiji,” with a stated emphasis on training and developing professional security personnel to international norms.

A notable element of the new venture is its stated employment terms. Mr Prasad said Metropolitan Security Fiji intends to pay staff above Fiji’s minimum wage and to offer medical cover and education provisions — benefits he said are part of the company’s commitment to its workforce. The announcement positions the company as aiming to raise labour standards within the local private security sector, although details on the number of roles to be created in Fiji or the timing of hiring were not provided at the launch.

The company has also partnered with former senior police officer Anil Chand, who brings 37 years of policing experience to the business and will serve as chief operating officer of Metropolitan Security Fiji. Mr Chand’s appointment adds policing experience to the firm’s leadership as it seeks to establish operations and client relationships in Suva and beyond.

The launch comes as Fiji sees renewed attention on security across several fronts. In recent months, the government and international partners have announced investments to bolster maritime and border security, including US funding aimed at strengthening naval communications capacity and cooperation with Australia on customs and interdiction capability. Metropolitan Security Fiji’s entry into the market arrives against that backdrop, offering private-sector services for site and event protection as public agencies pursue longer-term capacity-building.

Metropolitan Security Fiji declined to provide further operational details, such as licensing steps being taken in Fiji or the timeline for deploying staff. Mr Prasad said the company looks forward to “building strong relationships within Fiji and serving this beautiful nation with commitment, professionalism, and excellence.” The firm’s expansion will be watched by businesses and event organisers in Suva seeking private security options that promise internationally informed training and employment practices.
